Hon. Kevin J. Cox (Ret.)

Fourteen years on the Wayne County Circuit Court across its Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions, presiding over more than 200 jury trials, after 25 years trying medical malpractice, auto negligence and personal injury cases for both plaintiffs and defendants.

Judge Cox joined MI-JADR after more than 40 years of trial experience as a jurist and civil litigator. He serves as a neutral mediator, facilitator and arbitrator on complex civil cases from the Livonia office and remotely.

Elected to the Third Judicial Circuit Court in 2012, 2018 and 2024, he spent fourteen years on the Wayne County Circuit Court — the largest court in Michigan — sitting in its Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions and presiding over more than 200 jury trials.

He came to the bench after more than 25 years as a trial attorney handling medical malpractice, automobile negligence, premises liability and other personal injury matters for both plaintiffs and defendants, with cases in more than 40 of Michigan's 83 counties. He was an owner and partner of Weiner & Cox, PLC, a partner at Thurswell, Chayet & Weiner, senior attorney at McKeen & Associates and at Kitch, Suhrheinrich, Saurbier & Drutchas, where he led a defense birth-trauma trial team, and served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan litigating licensing, regulatory and labor matters.

Having tried cases from both sides of the docket, Judge Cox is well placed to help attorneys and their clients resolve complex disputes. While in practice, he and his firm provided pro bono representation to Michigan families who lost loved ones in the September 11 World Trade Center attack, recovering millions of dollars in compensation for those families.
